One would think that things might slow down in the summer! Especially for a newcomer to the LSC in the past year, I did not really know what to expect! Things have all but slowed down. More so, they have “simply” changed pace!
The LSC has been a “happening” place lately with our new ESL ministry that has been started by our new friend, Suse Olson! Susie moved to Wichita from Colorado just to teach ESL in our building to college students! God has been working through that process in so many ways and opened many doors for Susie. Although many college students are not in town this summer, the opportunity arose to begin a beginner’s ESL class that has been attended by many new local families in need of learning English! We thank Susie for all that she has done and for her heart for the Lord, and the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with everyone that we meet! The place has been bustling a couple times a week with these families and their children, and all of the faithful volunteers that have been sent our way.
Tuesday Nights the GenY young-adult Bible Study Group has been meeting here at the LSC. They are doing a video series from Andy Stanley titled “Twisting the Truth.” This group is for older young-adults (ages 23-30). If you are interested in joining, check out their Facebook for more information!
We begun a new discussion group called “Theology on Tap” in April that meets at local breweries and pubs! We have a time of fellowship and then discussion over a faith-related topic! Our June ToT discussion was over the Bible! We will be meeting again on June 24 at Wichita Brewing Co. and Pizzeria out WEST with Pastor Goltl from Ascension! The topic will be Spiritual Disciplines and the Power of Personal Faith. We hope you can join us!
We will also be starting a 4-week Bible Study series over Philippians in July! It will be on Sunday early evenings at the LSC with dinner provided! The dates for that will be July 10 and 31, and August 7 and 14. We are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting new friends too!
We have been meeting lots of new friends, and are excited for those that are away for the summer to come back and join us in the Fall! Coming in the fall we will be helping with Move-In day, beginning our Thursday Night Bible Studies and Women’s Bible Studies again, and
also having more opportunities in the areas of Faith, Fun and Fellowship led by our student group, Anchored! Of course you can’t forget that next Spring Break we will be going to Mexico again, so save the date! It’s going to be a lot of fun!
On another note, we are working on a very special project here at the LSC that we are excited to s
hare with you all very soon. It includes sharing our vision for where we feel God is leading us in ministry and how you can be a part of it too! So many exciting things are happening at the LSC, at WSU, and in our community, and we are enjoying seeing God at work. We are joining in!
